In contrast to many major Asian and African languages, Persian has opted to remain the sole language of (higher) education, scholarship, industry, judiciary, and business in Iran—and to some extent in Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Yet, despite the explosive, systematic expansion of scientific, technical, and everyday vocabulary in dominant, world-spanning English, Persian has vividly lagged behind in keeping up with such lexical and terminological developments. This under-development of modern Persian, especially in scientific and business realms, stems partly from its conceptual and methodological limitations and partly from a misunderstanding of the extent and characteristics of a highly nuanced, ever-expanding scientific terminology.
To address these critical shortcomings that risk making Persian increasingly inadequate and unscientific, over the past five years and under the direction and pioneering contribution of Dr. Javid Pajin—a physician, biologist, and linguist—we have been engaging in devising innovative yet rigorous methodologies to break this long-standing terminological stagnation. This methodological breakthrough, coupled with a systematic and comprehensive approach to scientific terminology, has enabled us to coin nearly one thousand new simple verbs to enrich sophisticated Persian, generating more than ten thousand lexically related technical cluster terms.
Now, to make this vast reservoir of terminological neologisms readily accessible to scholars, specialists, translators, linguists, learners, and laypeople, we are on the verge of launching a long-planned comprehensive, user-friendly platform. This platform will feature a powerful search engine, word cluster diagrams, etymological charts, morphological constructions, methodological lessons, and much more. This will be the first-ever, exhaustive and systematized online etymological dictionary of Persian scientific terminology and neologisms with regular updating and lexical expansion.
